Overview
A production-oriented e-commerce platform for AKGadgets, a phone and electronics retailer in Harare, built as a technology partnership: AKGadgets supplies and fulfils the phones, the platform generates and processes online sales, and earns a configurable commission on eligible sales.
Problem
A phone retailer wanted to sell online with accurate stock and a transparent, auditable way to share commission with its technology partner.
Solution
A full storefront and checkout with a commission engine whose rate is configurable and snapshotted on every order, plus commission reporting with CSV export.
Engineering Case Study
Approach: The commission rate is snapshotted per order so historical orders never change, and stock, concurrency and order-status rules are covered by automated tests.
Architecture: Clean Architecture (Domain, Application, Infrastructure, Web) on ASP.NET Core 10 Razor Pages, EF Core 10, SQL Server and ASP.NET Core Identity, with Bootstrap 5 for the interface and a full documentation set (architecture, database, user guide, deployment, security).
Features: Catalogue with filters, search and pagination; product pages with variant picker; cart; guest or account checkout; order tracking for signed-in customers and guests; commission lifecycle (pending, confirmed, cancelled, refunded, paid) and CSV reports.
Outcome: Live at akgadgets.co.zw, backed by 98 automated tests covering commission calculation, order totals, stock and concurrency, status transitions, checkout and authorization.
